A Journey to Seberang Perai, Bandar Perai Jaya.
Finally they were here – the Seberang Perai office. Luckily there were no traffic jams and they were safely on the way to their destination. After their arrival, Mangles needed to prepare the notes for the meeting later on. Meanwhile, Jolene was checking her e-mails, sending e-mails to the WCC office and replying to all the other e-mails she had. They also had discussions about cases or issues that happened recently while waiting for Mr. Rajhan from MP Batu Kawan office to arrive for their meeting.
The meeting was held on time. Mangles was handling this workshop and this programme was organised by her and other members such as Mr. Rahjan, Ms. Dharma from PPW and Juthi from PWTC. The purpose of this meeting was to organize a “Domestic Violence Awareness” workshop for Tamil speakers. The workshop will be held on the 14th of March, 2015, at Juru. They were delegating the job. For example, who has to set up booths, book venues, prepare PowerPoint slides, speeches and participants registrations. They also need to prepare some equipment such as stationery, white boards, white screens and PA systems. Besides that, they are also seeking people to translate PowerPoints into the Tamil language and they need a photographer. The meeting ended at 11.15 a.m.
They left Seberang Perai office and headed straight to the next destination.
The next destination was – Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tasek (SMK Tasek), at Taman Puteri Gunung, Simpang Ampat. This meeting was with the Head of Co-curricular, Mr. Aasaithamby to pass an approval letter.
They were having a new programme at SMK Tasek – a pilot test on teenage girls around 13 years old. There were 5 Malay females and 5 Indian female students. The pilot test was about self-esteem among the group of girls. In the programme, they played games, drew mindmaps about themselves and answered those questions that were given by Mangles and Jolene. It was to receive their opinions, give feedback on how they would solve problems they were facing without influence from others. But, the most important purpose was to help the girls build up their confidence and to become brave enough to make themselves heard. This programme ended at 2.30 p.m..
At the end of the session, they met with the Head of Co-curricular – Mr. Aasaithamby, to go over the programme and discuss the situation of the female students.
They finally had lunch.
Then, they went to Dewan at Perkampungan Juru, to have a look at the hall and test on the PA system for the workshop on 14th of March, 2015.
After all the hardwork, they finally rested their feet at the WCC in Penang.
Stayed back to practice for the 1 Billion Rising dance.
Now they get to go back to their home sweet homes.
